THE FIRST A1 DESIGN TASMANIAN YACHT, 'WEENE' built 1910.
What could be a more perfect pairing? A sailing tragic, restorer - conservator and a 1910 Tasmanian built 36ft huon pine yacht. Now that's a lot of wood to look after !!
Since 2006 Ben and his highly skilled team (and a few mates who have kindly volunteered their time), have been lovingly working to have her at her very best.
But its not all work as these old salts get to sail on Sydney Harbour to test out their progress and as 'tradition' dictates, tend to end a working bee with a 'nip' or two from Weene's cocktail cabinet - definitely not racing required but who cares, whilst musing no doubt on future tasks to be done and sailing to be had.
The good news is that you too can enjoy this amazingly beautiful classic yacht for a crewed day sail or charter on Sydney Harbour - think Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby in 'True Love' or JFK and Jackie Kennedy on 'Victura' circa 1953.
As the perfect backdrop for fashion and advertising photo shoots WEENE is also available for hire.
She can be seen moored in Mosman Bay and races with the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club.
